This Week's Medicine is #Mineral

This Week's Medicine is #Mineral

Ever heard that song, "I'm going to sit right down and write myself a letter?" In it, a lovelorn writer sits to pen a letter "filled with words so sweet" that he or she "will make believe" it came from their Beloved.

What if we didn't have to pretend with ourselves and our Beloved's, or our family and friends, what we want and need in our personal relationships? What if we didn't have to settle, argue, or back down/suck it up in our relationships, because we haven't or can't clearly communicated our needs?

Welcome to our weekly explainer series on the Dagara Medicine Wheel. Each week we show you how one of its five distinct energies called Elements transforms, clears, amps up, or balances the energies in your own life. This week’s #Mineral Medicine brings in: Connection to Ancient Wisdom, Communication and Stories.

Calling In Guidance

Calling In Guidance

If you’ve been following along, maybe you know that things in my own life have been topsy-turvy lately. And I am truly so grateful for all of the wonderful opportunities and projects that I have going on, but let’s be honest. Sometimes in the midst of busyness and change we can begin to speed through life with a fiery passion, forgetting to calm ourselves, to re-center, and to go within

Fire up the #Fire Element in your Life: Have You Fed Your Ancestors Lately?

Fire up the #Fire Element in your Life: Have You Fed Your Ancestors Lately?

For this week’s #ItsElemental Medicine, we’re focusing in on the element of Fire. The passionate, hot, ecstatic and creative element serves as the mediator between worlds and is closest to the purest form of energy. It connects us to our purpose through our intuition- our internal guidance system.

As I began reflecting on the idea of a fire...a question came to the surface: Have you fed your ancestors lately?

Take Off Your Hats: Grounding Into The Mother Within

Take Off Your Hats: Grounding Into The Mother Within

There have been many times in my life when I’ve been wearing too many hats. Mom, Chauffeur, Chef, Professional, and Friend to name a few.

As a woman, I’m often inclined to offer a “yes” to everything that comes my way. Because our society trains us to believe that we must be able to “do it all,” and “have it all” (all the while being pleasant and put-together), we become Superwoman.

But wearing so many hats can deplete us, disconnecting us from the vital Earth element.  This week, as we reflect on the element of Earth, I’m inviting you to ask yourself some questions.

·      What if I didn’t do it all?

Standing at the Crossroads...I've Got to Trust The Timing.

Standing at the Crossroads...I've Got to Trust The Timing.

Here I am at another crossroads.

The last one was my divorce- a tough one. But if I am honest with myself, hard as it was, painful as it was, and as many times as I thought I wouldn’t make it through, it was a no brainer. I had to move on to the next step. I grieved the loss, the dream- but I did move forward knowing without a doubt I would be better off. It was truly difficult, but there was no other option for me.

This current visit to the crossroads though is different. It’s happening without my being able to make a choice about it- my son is leaving for College.

Life Is A Collection Of Starting Overs: Three Things I Do When I’m In Transition

Life Is A Collection Of Starting Overs: Three Things I Do When I’m In Transition

his week I have been feeling way off. Crying without knowing what the tears are about. Having waves of emotions that don’t stick, but I don’t know where they are coming from. Immediately I tell myself it’s because my son (my last) is leaving for college in a month. Oh, and then there’s the getting to this week’s business goals in the midst of this, as I sit here across from my business partner…I’m struggling, and I’m not quite sure what it is inside this whirlwind of emotions that has set off the ‘I’m just not alright’ alarm bell.

I know what I have to do. I can keep struggling in this particular wash cycle of emotions, or I can do what needs to be done.

Here we go again. Just when we think we are settled in to our life- into the forever marriage, the dream job, the perfect friendship, another rug gets pulled out from under us and we find ourselves in another TRANSITION.

When it Comes to Finding Your True Reflection:You Can't Be Afraid of Your Own Shadow

When it Comes to Finding Your True Reflection:You Can't Be Afraid of Your Own Shadow

What do you reflect to the world? Where do you find your reflection in it? Is your outward reflection an accurate representation of your inner one? Is there anything you are ‘faking,’ or that you need to let go of that doesn’t match who you are on the inside?

If so, the Dagara tribe of West Africa would say “it’s time to remove your mask” - not only in order for you to see yourself clearly, but also to be seen clearly by others as well.

The big question is: do our inner and outer reflections match? And if not how do we bring them as close together as possible? How do we remove our masks?

The Dagara Medicine Wheel’s five Elements – Fire, Water, Earth, Mineral and Nature – have their own energetic Medicine that is called in to balance, clear, or amp up specific energetic fields in your life. We bring you a Daily Elemental Tip, a bite-sized bomb of inspiration– with a daily activity to energize your day!

Today's Medicine is EARTH: CONNECTED TO THE HEART, HOME, NURTURING, GROUNDING

Tip O' The Day: Welcome Home!

One of our basic human needs is being able to know if we feel that we are welcome. This can extend to your own home, or office, or other space where you spend a lot of time, and where you want to feel at peace and grounded.

The Spirit of the Earth Element is about nurturing, empowering others, and making people 'feel at home.'

Regarding effective communication, an article from HelpGuide.org says that, “communication is the glue that helps you deepen your connections to others and improve teamwork, decision making, and problem solving. It enables you to communicate even negative or difficult messages without creating conflict or destroying trust.”

Tip Of The Day: To get the ‘whole story’ - favor your right ear.

Today’s Medicine is MINERAL: IN TOUCH WITH ANCIENT WISDOM, COMMUNICATION, STORIES

In some African cultures, you don’t get a traditional paper birth certificate. Instead your birth is recorded on a stone. Stones, rocks and minerals are thought to hold the ancient wisdom of the earth, which connects with the wisdom you carry about yourself – in your bones. When who you are doesn’t line up with what you do, the disconnect creates a crisis of identity, and action that feel meaningless.

Today'S TIP: Find a stone and write your birthday on it. As you do, connect with something authentic that you do really know about yourself.  Add a symbol or two to represent that and keep this little reminder handy when you need to reconnect and remember.
