How Do You Know When It’s Time To Tune Your Timing Belt?

I was looking for inspiration for a Blog on CHANGE and TIMING and I ran across this on Angie’s List . Of course I have to share because it’s perfect for the topic of CHANGE and YOUR personal growth journey.

“If an auto mechanic told you that your car’s timing belt needed immediate replacement and it was going to cost more than $1,000, you might assume it’s a scam. But unlike the shady mechanic who attempts to change your engine air filter every oil change, replacing the timing belt is absolutely crucial. The timing belt is an integral part of your engine and, if it fails, so does your engine, causing your car to shut down.”

Ok…so are you picking up what I’m putting down? No? Let’s keep going then…

How the timing belt works: The rubber timing belt is part of most internal combustion engines and is responsible for synchronizing the engine’s functions. It controls the rotation of the camshaft and crankshaft and the opening and closing of the engine’s many valves to allow air and gas in and out, which causes the fuel to ignite in the combustion chamber. In order for the process to take place, the valves have to open and close at the right time…The valves have to be in the correct position as well as the pistons…It’s a mechanical ballet of sorts. When the timing belt breaks, the valves…open at the wrong time; hit the larger pistons and cause damage.”

OK, now, are you getting it?

If CHANGE (and the engine to consistently manifest what we want in our lives) is also ‘a ballet of sorts;’ an intricate dance of info coming in, trust to be open at the right time to receive it, and the skill and knowledge of knowing how to use it to stay in motion…

I want to know; are you STILL out there dancing by yourself?

  • Are you thinking you are in control of the process of CHANGE in your life?
  • Are you open or closed to letting in everything you need to take the next step in the right direction?
  •  Are you willing to get help (tune ups) when needed?
  • Are you ignoring preventative maintenance that’s going to run your life off the road one of these days?

I get it. If you’re put off by starting the process of change in your life, YOU’RE NOT ALONE. But I’m also here to tell you, that…YOU’VE GOT YOU.

So get this:

1 – You have this engine inside you, already. You might not know how it works but it’s there (more on this in a second.)

2 - Change is about TIMING, ALIGNMENT and SYNCHRONICITY, before it’s about the RESULT you want to get.

TimingYou have to be ready…I used to push people into change; but I now understand that there generally needs to be some combustion event (a breakdown, an illness, a rite of passage, an inspiration, or hitting emotional rock bottom), that sparks it.

AlignmentYou need to be ‘at the right place at the right time’…meaning you have to be receptive either to your intuition nudging you over in that direction…or, to Source, the Universe, your Guides, or your Best Friend, your Mom, or a line in a book you read CONFIRM that you are being given directions. Pay attention. (P.S. The more you do, the better your receptors get, the more it comes in…I’m just saying.)

SynchronicityYou have to act and put it all together…you need the knowledge and aptitude to recognize and engage with the info you are getting…and use it to take the RIGHT next step in your personal growth journey.

Yeah, that sounds super easy, right. Done. Hold on, let me give you a bit more gas.

Remember when I just said, ‘I’m just saying because it comes from experience’. And remember that your car’s timing belt “is part of most internal combustion engine, and is responsible for synchronizing the engine’s functions?

Here’s what you need to keep your engine tuned:

Trust – You need to believe, tune into, and trust that you are being given the BEST and HIGHEST info (from inside and out) that is guiding you to in your HIGHEST-SELF care.

Practice – You have to give yourself a few successes. You have to roll up your sleeves and start the process of CHANGE, including tuning in. And yes, this takes PRACTICE.

Guidance – If you DON’T know how your engine works, (if you don’t know how to start and maintain the practice and process of change in your life) have someone who knows what they are doing take a look for you. Save yourself TIME and EFFORT…engage in preventative maintenance.

So you see, THIS is the engine inside you. THIS is the combustion process. You need to keep it oiled, maintained, and in motion. Why don’t you take it for a spin?
